2019 Softball Challenge Recipients

Analyst Cheryl Griffin has been an employee of the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office for 13  years. Analyst Griffin was diagnosed with stage 2 breast cancer that required intensive surgeries and additional treatments such as radiation. This has caused a financial strain on her due to missed time from work and ongoing treatments.


CSP Edith Rivera has been employed with the  Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office for 9 years. Edith  has been diagnosed with stage 2 breast cancer. Treatment for this disease has caused Edith to exhaust all of her time and will have to go without pay through this ordeal.  This has put a financial and professional strain on her.


Deputy David German has been a Deputy with the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office since 1987.  Recently, Deputy German was diagnosed with cancer which metastasized throughout his body. This disease has caused Deputy German to miss time from work to get the necessary treatment at various hospitals throughout the state. This has effected many facets of his life; personally, professionally and financially.


Jason Matthews is the spouse of Human Resource Specialist Jennifer Matthews.  In 2018 Jason was diagnosed with an autoimmune disorder called IgA Nephropathy (Berger’s Disease) and stage 5 kidney disease. He is currently on dialysis three times a week and has begun the evaluation process to be placed on the  kidney transplant list.  This has been a life altering diagnosis for the Matthews family and has put a financial and professional strain on the family.


Mary Hayes is the 23 year old daughter of CSP Matthew Hayes; recently she was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. She will begin treatment at Jacksonville Mayo Clinic.  Since this is a new diagnose, the family is unsure what the future will bring, but time off from work and treatments will be a financial strain on the family.
