November 14th, 2010 – The Charlotte Hans Softball Challenge is a annual event that is held to benefit an employee of the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office who has been devastated by illness or a victim of a catastrophic event. On May 21, 2010, Michael Collister, a 28-year veteran of the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office was diagnosed with terminal stage IV cholangiocarcinoma (bile duct cancer). This rare form of cancer is a cancerous (malignant) growth in one of the ducts that carries bile from the liver to the small intestine. This is also referred to as metastatic liver cancer, as it results from the spread (metastasis) of cancer from other areas of the body. Because this cancer has spread to his liver and lymph nodes behind the abdomen, radiation and surgery are not options. The Softball Tournament will benefit the Collister family to offset medical, travel and daily expenses
